Arri Skylink wireless DMX control – IBC 2017

Skylink wireless DMX control

The Arri Skylink is a two-part system that allows wireless DMX and RDM (bi-directional communication) for Skypanel LED lights. It has been designed as an add-on for existing Skypanels so you’re not stuck having to re-buy lighting fixtures to add wireless control.

The Arri Skylink base station acts as a bridge between your lights and your control surface.

Previously you had to control Skypanel lights over a wired remote control, but with SkyLink the receiver and base station use LumenRadio for DMX/RDM communication to and from connected Skypanels. A WiFi chip in the base station then allows wireless control from a tablet or computer.

The SkyLink receiver plugs straight into the DMX socket on compatible SkyPanel lights.

The SkyLink Receiver plugs directly into the DMX port on the back of any SkyPanel and receives power from the USB port directly below the DMX. This means the SkyLink system will work with all SkyPanel models including the S30, S60 and S120.

Arri claim the system has a range of 150m (500ft) if used on set and up to 400m (1,300 ft) if used in an area with no obstructions.

Arri SkyLink pricing and availability

The Arri Skylink system is expected to ship in Q4 this year. Individual receivers will be priced at €495 and the base station at €1,790. If you’re looking to kit out all your existing Skypanel fixtures with wireless DMX (and why wouldn’t you be) Arri are also releasing three-receiver kits. And for the committed Skypanel-phile you can also get a pack of ten. The kits will also come with a case and a foam insert.
