With the popularity of the Sony full frame cameras over the last few years Sony have just announced they’ve moved to second place in the full-frame interchangeable lens camera market, pushing Nikon into third place and leaving Canon in the top spot.
Sony: the new arrival
Sony sure has been pushing hard in a space that is comparatively new for them, however they’ve been very aggressive in putting video features like 4K video into their mirrorless cameras while the other more traditional DSLR cameras from Nikon and Canon seem far behind. Mirrorless is the future and consumers are moving in this direction as the numbers are showing. I personally have owned the a7s, a7sii and a7rii. I haven’t bought a Canon DSLR in many years.
2017: already a good year for Sony
Sony’s interchangeable cameras and lenses have seen record sales in 2017, in particular within the US full-frame camera market, with double-digit growth, up 23% compared to the same period last year.
“Our commitment to the industry is stronger than ever,” said Neal Manowitz, VP of Digital Imaging at Sony North America. “We are always listening to our customers, combining their feedback with our intense passion for innovation to deliver products, services and support like no other.”
