At the Interbee how in Japan, Azden were showing their new SMH-X Shock Mount Holder for microphones. The SMH-X will fit popular Azden models as well as third-party mics with diameters between 18 mm to 22 mm. Two sets of clips are provided to accommodate this range of microphone sizes.
Instead of the rubber bands that Azden previously used, the SMH-X Shock Mount Holder suspends a microphone using a double crescent shaped isolation mount. According to AZDEN it is made out of a nearly indestructible material that won’t deform or wear out over time. The design of the mount is claimed to provide better isolation from handling noise and vibration.
The SMH-X can be mounted on top of cameras that provide a standard size shoe mount, or on boom poles, tripods and accessory bars that provide a 1/4”-20 size thread. The SMH-X will start shipping in late December for $39.95US. It looks to be good competition for the yet to ship Rode SM3-R Camera Shoe Shockmount.
