GoPro have just posted sneak peak of footage (via Engadget) from a developmental prototype of their new quadcopter and stabilisation system. There are no technical details given of the prototype other than the fact that no post-production stabilisation was used on the footage published. We can only assume that there is a 3-axis brushless gimbal on the quadcopter that is carrying a Hero 4 camera.
The company plans to release a quadcopter in the first half of 2016 and this footage certainly impresses, but of course we are only seeing a carefully selected set of shots. Until the drone actually launches we won’t know just what it is capable of. We don’t know if it will be a purely consumer device, or whether it will have manual control and some of the other more professional features seen in the latest offerings from DJI, 3D Robotics and others.
