Newsshooter at SMPTE roundup: Part 2

By associate editor Elliot Smith, videos by Clinton Harn:

Newsshooter contributor Clinton Harn continues his tour of the 2015 SMPTE Expo show floor in Sydney, checking out the latest developments in from cmotion, Bowens, Zeiss and GoPro.

Stephen Chappell from cmotion demonstrates the company’s cforce mini motor. Developed in conjunction with Arri, their latest focus/iris/zoom motor is shipping now as part of an optional package for the Alexa Mini camera.

Tim Haskell from Bowens demonstrates the company’s Limelight LED ring and SLED fluorescent replacement fixtures. The ringlight comes in a kit including camera mounting hardware, gels and a carrying bag. A V-mount battery sled is optional. The SLED banks are available in either four- or eight-tube fixtures and operate as more robust replacements for traditional fluorescent soft lights.

Michael Schiehlen from Carl Zeiss discusses the company’s Loxia and Batis lens ranges, both of which are suitable for use on Sony’s recently announced high-resolution mirrorless compact a7rII camera. The Loxia lenses are particularly suited to video shooting, with common front diameters across the range and the ability to switch between a clicked and smooth aperture ring.

GoPro introduce their new Session camera, a more compact action camera that is waterproof even without a housing and that is largely controlled by a smartphone app.
