Zacuto has introduced a new version of their Gratical OLED EVF called the Gratical X. The Gratical X uses exactly the same hardware as the Gratical HD but the software inside can be customised, allowing you to purchase only the features you need. The Gratical HD retails for $3,000 US, the Gratical X is expected to sell for considerably less – around $1,600 US. What you do need to take into consideration is for that price you just get the Gratical X and no features at all. The features will be available to purchase as a bundle or as individual items.

Bundle 1 $350 (save $85):
Peaking
Red Line Peaking
Zebras
Scopes

Bundle 2 $700 (save $175):

Red Line Peaking
Zebras

1×1 Zoom
HDMI & SDI Out With Cross Convert

Bundle 3 $395 (save $100):

Pricing for individual features is as follows:
Peaking $95
Red Line Peaking $95
False Color $95
Zebras $95
1×1 Zoom $95
Record Light & TC $150 (coming soon)
Full LUT Capability $200 (import, create, export)
Full Scopes $150 (Histogram, waveform, vectroscope)
Audio Meters $85
Anamorphic $125
Frame Store $85

DSLR Scaling $95
Cross Convert $95 (Must have HDMI & SDI out purchased)
SDI Out $125
HDMI Out $125

As a Gratical HD owner I have found the the product to be very easy to use and well made. I recently used it on a documentary in Afghanistan where it was subjected to difficult conditions and a lot of dust. I do recommend that you use a different battery or powering option than what comes included with the Gratical. I found the included battery did not last very long which was very frustrating.

A lot of people who may well of been put off by the $3,000 US price tag of the Gratical HD will potentially find the new Gratical X an interesting proposition. The Gratical X with the Bundle 1 option should retail for under $2,000 US and provide users with a very high-quality and user-friendly monitoring option. I’s unclear at this stage as to how users can upgrade to different bundles or individual features once they purchase the Gratical X. The Gratical X should be shipping in July.
