NAB 2015: Aputure Light Storm LED soft lights

By contributing editor Chuck Fadely:

Chinese manufacturer Aputure was showing their new Light Storm LED lights at NAB 2015. The lights appear well-made for the price, use brick batteries and are inexpensive. Aputure claim a CRI of 95+ and the quality of the light seemed pretty nice.

The aluminum head is connected to a control/power unit by a cable with lemo connectors so you don’t have the weight up high on stands. The control/power unit has remote control, dmx control, dimmer, and Anton-Bauer brick battery connectors. The lights were bright and have dense LED placement. Ted Sim from Aputure was demoing the lights and says the half panel is the equivalent of a 500-watt tungsten and the full panel is the equivalent of a 1K tungsten.

The half size unit will be around $500, and the full around $600 and they will start shipping in July. The video above should give you some idea of the light quality.
