Cinema5D’s Johnnie Behiri shoots first look video with pre-production Canon 7DmkII

Canon 7D mark II Review – “Herzilein” from Johnnie Behiri on Vimeo.

Johnnie Behiri over on Cinema5D has had a chance to shoot with a pre-production version of the new Canon 7DmkII. The original 7D was a go-to camera for many news and documentary shooters and even now there many still in use. The mark II version has several new features such as Dual-Pixel CMOS AF, 1080/60P recording (in IPB mode) and a ‘clean’ HDMI output with audio pass through (something missing from the 5DmkIII). Other features such as audio controls, monitoring and ALL-I recording are borrowed from the 5DmkIII.

Behiri is keen to stress that the camera he used was a beta unit but what he found was that the image was a ‘bit soft’ and similar in quality to the 5DmkIII. The video he has posted has been sharpened in post to make it more ‘alive’. The output has low noise at high ISO and the by now familiar Canon colours.
