Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4

Newsshooter’s Jonas Schönstein had a chance to shoot some test shots with the new Zeiss 55mm f1.4 Otus lens at the Inter BEE trade show in Japan this week. The lens was attached to a Nikon D800 outputting to an Atomos Samurai Blade recorder with Connect HDMI to SDI convertor. The results are extremely impressive as was the smooth handling of the focus ring on the lens. Bokeh and breathing looked great to my eye. The price may be around $4000 but if you are a multimedia shooter and you pockets are deep enough I would certainly consider one for stills and video.

We also had a chance to talk to Arato Ogura of Zeiss on our live show. He showed the new cinema zoom lenses and also showed us the Otus.
