SmallHD bring OLED technology to their new AC7 field monitors

By site editor Dan Chung:

SmallHD have today launched their latest monitors that include new OLED technology as an option. The new AC7 series is aggressively priced and comes four versions and two screen sizes. The base 7 inch model is HDMI only and offers 1280×800 resolution for a very competitive $599 US. The second model is same size but adds SDI input with passthrough for $899. Next is the $1099 US 7.7 inch HDMI only 1280×800 OLED version of the AC7. Finally there is there top model with 7.7inch OLED with HDMI and SDI, this retails for $1399.

While the cheaper models are certainly welcome additions to the range, it is the more expensive OLED version that is likely to make waves. Until now the only OLED field monitors have been from the likes of Sony – at a much higher price point. The technology gives a the AC7 OLED version a much wider colour gamut than a regular screen and a claimed contrast ration of 10,000 to 1. The full benefits of OLED vs LCD on the AC7 range are discussed here. http://www.smallhd.com/products/ac7/oled-vs-lcd-on-camera-field-monitors.html

All four monitors have the complete feature set with focus assist, false colour, image flip, aspect ratio guides and DSLR scaling for cameras like the 5D mkII. The casing is an aluminium skeleton coated with rubberised ABS.

The monitors can be powered with existing DP6 battery plates and also via an Anton Bauer battery plate – a feature new for SmallHD. Interestingly the AC7 monitors can also output 5V/1A via USB – great for powering wireless video senders and the other small accessories.

The monitors are available to pre-order now and are said to ship in 2 to 3 weeks.
